Heron Haven
3 Acres of spring-rich wetlands, currently a little overgrown
and woody- the multiple springs are still attractive to the
great blue herons we see often rising up as we drive in, and
the beavers we haven't seen, but know are there from the
'pruning' they've done to the saplings...
Reeds, ferns and water lilies grow up around the sumac and
poplar trees.
Our goals here are to
-do a controlled burn, and then plant with a wetland fringe
mixture of plants to attract and shelter additional wildlife.
-locate and protect the spring sources
-up on the highest corner, construct a 'lookout' shelter
suitable for wildlife viewing and camping
-install wood duck nest boxes in the line of big trees that
border the wetlands on one side, and Dedmon's Branch on
the other side.
