  Our Home
Using materials of and from the land- pine logs, cedar shakes and stone,
our home is designed by me- every inch considering the homesite and
our family's needs, as well as making every effort to use as little artificial
cooling, heating and lighting as possible.
The constructed shell will be built by Satterwhite Log Homes, our
contractor friend Ronnie Batie, and alot of the finish work will be done by
us. Our goal is for the the completed house to look and act like it's still
a living part of the earth, that it fits where it sits, and that it's been there
forever.
Built in a modified 'dogtrot' style with porches all around to take advantage
of our climate, this will be a gracious home that's also very low impact.
August 2010- don't say it out loud- but it looks like it's really going to
happen! I'll be updating this page as our HOME finally makes the
unbelievable leap from dream to lovely reality after years of delays...
Satterwhite Log Homes- began construction September 21 and finished the
roof shingles November 23- exactly 8 weeks. AMAZING.
But first- the design itself-
The house will be built as if it were two separate log cabins- one on each end
connected by the "dog trot" in the middle. Traditionally that dog trot is left open,
but we're making it all-weather with walls of windows/doors on the ends that will
remain open most of the year.
The left side is the master bedroom side with our bedroom and Ward's library
along with a full bathroom (accessible to the central part).
The center is the living room, kitchen, dining room and my office- all open to
each other.
The right side is Alec's wing- study, bedroom and full bathroom. The walk-in
pantry/laundry is also on this side but opens into the kitchen.
The house's windows and doors are placed to take advantage of air-flow and the
play of light across it during the day, and is vented via the opening gables that
allow for hot summer air to be pushed up, across and out.

Ladies and Gentlemen, Dogs and Cats, I am so very pleased to introduce you to
OUR HOME at long last
Every time I see it it takes my breath away, and I expect it always will.
